Dyna Spark!!?? Any one have Good/Bad things to say about them

I am looking to get one of these but I would like to hear if anyone else has one and if they ever crap out like my optispark Does every 6-months. I just wanted to hear what some people who own them say if it was worth the $600 for the unit.

Let me know!!!

I have the Dynaspark and I love it. The build quality is second to none, and it has fixed a recurring miss I have been chasing for years. It is pricey, but for me it was worth it.

When I bought mine, I had to wait because demand was so high, and they are all individually hand built to ensure high QC which results in a slower production cycle. Folks are buying them as fast as they can make 'em.

How could your opti be crapping out every six months? Mines been on for 10 years now and works fine. Do you take a leak on it while working on the car?

Why Dynaspark and not the LTCC Coil setup? IIRC, the prices are just about the same and I think I already read someone here complaining about their Dynaspark failing....

It seems to me that the LTCC is kind of a pain in the ***. Having to find places to mount the coils, plus you still need to use the opti for part of it. I read that they're working on some sort of mounting system for the coils though. That would be pretty cool.

i havent seen any posts saying the dynaspark has issues, but there have been a few about the ltcc.

i was considering the ltcc, but thats just too many wires for me to want to deal with.

i still dont know what im going to do,but might run a normal distributer like Z9's did

I have one. It works perfectly. No issues at all. Build quality is perfect. I was one of the first and got in on the GP price. As I remember, the LTCC wasn't readily available until a little later.

I think the bigger problem with either distributor is the lack of ability to easily change the cap and rotor. Ask any 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen performance enthusiast how often they change their cap and rotor. For 15 minutes of extra work, I did mine with every plug change, about 10K miles if not sooner.
That being my 1st consideration, (my 60K water-proof opti died because one of the rotor hold down screws backed out) to relocate or eliminate the cap and rotor, the LTCC is the way to go. I beleive Dynaspark makes a well constructed, water-resistant distributor. They also have a model ready to go for the LTCC set-up. If money were no object I'd have one. However, when this opti has about 10K I'll just install an LTCC and hope the damn rotor doesn't have a problem later, maybe I'll just remove it at that time since it WILL be the last time (I hope).

I guess Dyna spark it is. I have no idea why my car eats up the optisparks. It never ever sees rain and it is always hand washed, I don't drive ofter either.

I had an opti go out on me because one of the screws on the rotor backed out as well. I thought I was the only one who ever experienced that. cool

Any one else. I do like the fact that there is less trouble shooting involved with putting the dyna spark on, not much to modify right.

Thanks for all the feedback!

I think it's ridiculous to spend $600 on a $200 maintenance part. Mine is at 80k miles and is pushing me through 12.4's at the track without a hitch!

Same here, my stock opti lasted a while and was still going till the water pump threw up. My buddy still has his stocker for 80K miles on a 94. If your going through optis that fast, I think you got other issues with the car. Since you got cam, is the dowel pin the correct length?

Oh definitely suspect the dowl pin. I barely skimmed over your sig and just responded to your dynaspark Q. If you have been out of the loop, theres a few threads about dowl pin length being too long on aftermarket cams and killng opti's. It will kill a dynaspark too. They include specifiactions for dowl pin length in their instructions. Yep, check that dowl pin when you pull the opti.
Here's a thread for you to read:
