durability tips?
what can i do so i wont blow my motor? Its got 55k on it and the mods in the sig. i mean if i run it up to 4-5k maybe once a week is it going to blow up? i love to get pushed back in the seat, but i am very paranoid of blowing the motor. i use synthetic mobile 1 oil and check it all the time. it used 3/4 of a quart after 2500 miles (is this bad?). Anyways what kind of stuff could i do to avoid destroying the engine?
Lt1's are built very very well. You would probably have to do something stupid or just beat the POOOOH out of it ALL the time to blow it up. My dad had an LT1 in his police car 150k of HARD miles and it still ran like a champ. If you romp it once or twice a week you're not gonna hurt it. Running them slow (low rpms) all the time can also be hard on them...these cars are meant to be driven, just don't abuse it. You can squeeze plenty of thrust out of them below 3000 or 3500 as well. I rarely find the need or desire to rev above 3500...unless I've got a lot of open road or am getting on the highway. Even then the car has enough torque you don't have to rev it...change the oil, don't treat each light like NHRA qualifying and I think you'll be fine.
