Dumb Air Intake Question

Hey guys I was cleaning my K&N today and noticed on the side of the air box kinda in the fender theres this plastic box the filter box fits upto. It kinda reminded me of the "air silencer" on my mustang a few years ago that when you pulled it off it allowed more air flow and increased power. Is this the same type thing on the 97Z28? Will i hurt/help anything by pulling that out?

Also while im on it, is Cold Air induction a Noticeable horsepower increase??

Thanks,
Jonathan

Yep! Take that out if it's the accordion-type thing. Also, once you take it out, you will notice a plastic shield below. I've got most of that removed to let additional airflow around that area.

CAI is a definite hp increase. I never took my accordian thing out in fact its still there. I doubt it has any bearing with my SLP CAI in there but maybe i'll take it off one day I guess. The stock air box is WAY too restrictive. CAI would be a nice 1.5-2.5 MPH increase in the 1/4 mi. I went from trapping 98.5 to 103.8 by adding cat-back, CAI and pulleys.

Cold air is good for about 10 solid horsepower...even though the company's claim 16-18

That accordion thing is a fighter, be prepared to go some rounds with it before it gives up and comes out.
