duals with stock exhaust manifold? also X pipe and H pipe?

couple of questions here. i want a true dual set up with x pipe into a bullet style muffler. problem is don't have the $$$ for longtubes yet. would this set up be pointless if its running off the stock manifolds till i get the funding. i know the facts, y pipe blows and the 3 inch is crimped pretty bad over the axle so i'm thinking it will. current set up is no cat cut out where cat was and a blowmaster muffler. X pipe and H pipe. i've heard x is better power wise. and has more of a high pitch sound. H is deeper? is this tru

alot of guys have run duals with stock manifolds or shorties.

there will still be a decent power gain.

stick with a 2.5" setup.

and yes the Xpipe yields more hp due to scavenging affect of the X. and the Hpipe is known for better sound. the hp difference is probably 2-3hp at best on most cars. maybe on some 700hp engine it would be significant...but not on a bolt-on LT1

I say spend the money on long tubes first. My longtubes were cheaper than my duals.

Get a set of uncoated hookers used for like $150-$200. I paid $200 for mine then another $50 for ory all in good shape.

The biggest problem I would see in going about it this way would be the extra work later to go from the true dual on stock manifolds to LT's (if you plan to go to LT's). Looks like you would have alot of re-fabrication to make it work. IMO, save the money that you were going to spend on this and put it towards LT's.

Don't feel bad.... you aren't the only one stuck with a flowmaster and wanting duals ! I either want true duals or a GMMG exhaust (Decisions, decisions). Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Yes....I am one of those people wanting true duels that just have a stupid flowmaster cat back. I plan on getting some long tube headers along with it probly though. And not to hijack your thread or nothing. But i was wanting to see if anybody knew how much it was for a true duels set up, and i dont mean headers included. Just everything else.

I agree. You'd be more impressed with the performance you got from the long tube swap than the exhaust swap.

Not exactly what you wanted. Pics in sig. I have an H-pipe (sort of)
crossover.

That is one sharp looking setup ..... I will have to download some pics sometime and take to a local shop to see if they can pull that off. As asked before, why did you get away from the Flowmasters? Is the setup you have now deep?

The main reason I am looking at a true dual / GMMG setup (can't really decide other than the cost of the GMMG ) is that I was talking to another owner that had a similiar setup to mine and said that a cutout gained him about 10hp (and pointed out that the GMMG only cost him a couple of hp when compared to the cutout). I'm figuring that my weld-in flowmaster is causing restriction and robbing some hp.

The muffler is a Dynomax Ultraflow. It does not have the internal "x" like the
Magnaflow, it's just two straight through paths.

Yeah, the Flowmasters were way too loud for me, plus the drone was really
bad too.

I need to get a short video up sometime soon. The sound is fairly deep and
mellow. It's quiet under part throttle, just a bit more that stock, and then
is more noticable when you get on it. There is no drone or interior resonance
at all. The only reason for dumping the Flowmasters was the loudness. I have
always liked Flowmaster for performance and there is plenty of dyno proof to
back them up.
