Dual cat 95s?
Dual cat 95s?
Apparently my car may have dual cats? It has one right off the manifold and then another one after the Y-pipe... I hadn't paid attention to it before, but my mechanic buddy said he saw it the last time we were under the car over at his house.
Is he just seeing things?
Can I just run one cat without issue if my car originally did have two? I'm getting ready to install my RK Sport headers.

Re: Dual cat 95s?
Being that its CA, id say they have the most strict emission laws, and they will probably check. If they see one cat, and ur supposed to have 2, thatd be a big no no. Unless you know someone...

But I'm just wondering if the PCM will freak out if it only 'sees' one cat. I could just delete the cat altogether and run O2 sims, but I don't see a reason to really have no cat.
Don't wanna pollute, ya know.
I'd like to run one high flow cat so I can use the new headers I bought. The other thing is... Were there dual cat 95s? I can't get under my car to check, it's too damn low. I'll have to drive it up on a curb to check when I get a chance. He said he saw 2 cats, and one was way up near the exhaust manifold.
Sounds odd to me...
Re: Dual cat 95s?
Yes, there were some late build, dual cat 95's out there.
Not sure if they were OBD2 though... i imagine they might have to be?
Anywho, if you eliminate one cat you will need to run an O2 sim behind it or program them out of your PCM.

Re: Dual cat 95s?
From what I understand there were a few late 95 dual cat obdII cars in good 'ol Commifornia. Your vin will tell the tale to the smog guy. If you change it around keep your old parts just in case they decide to send you to a test only. The good thing is that you can get away with running the single cat headers because that is what your EO# is for. You could actually be kicked back for using '96 and newer headers because we live in this really cool place called Screwmefornia.
I'm kinda' scamming the system by registering my car in a Nor Cal county where my mom lives. Believe it or not there are places in this state that does not require smog.

Kick Z tail out, I have a 95 camaro with dual cats until I converted to a single cat. You won't need to run O2 sims since you only have two O2s like the 93 and 94s not like the 96 and 97s where they have 4 o2s which the other 2 are after the cats. Also the computer will not freak out. As for Smog I haven't had a problem with the visual. Also long as you can get a CARB tag and run MACs or get CARB legal single cat headers like SLPs, Edelbrock or hooker. The only parts you will need is a high flow cat and a S pipe to connect your exhaust to the cat. You may need to extend the O2 sensor on the driver side but other than that, thats pretty much it. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Hope that helps you out. Good luck.
Re: Dual cat 95s?
Dual cat 95s were automatic, California emissions cars. They are OBD-I like every other 1995. Nothing to do with "late year production" or anything like that. Since they are OBD-I, there are no rear O2 sensors and there for nothing to "sim".
Re: Dual cat 95s?
Where would I get a "S-pipe"? Here are the headers and Y-pipe I have... Is a S-pipe the only way to mate it to a cat?

One thing that's weird, my mechanic friend said that I have an OBD-II connector. I told him the car is supposed to be OBD-I and he said it probably is, it just has the other connector.
I know that all 95s are OBD-I, whats the deal with that?
