DTC P0400 EGR System

DTC P0400 EGR System
Well, I finally got my very first (yes that's correct), my very first SES light
and the code is P0400. The car is a 97 and has a whopping 32K miles on it.
So I don't drive it much. I have read the service manual and wish to cut
through all the crap and get a fix from you all. I watched my HPP+ with
power scan on the way home today and the EGR Duty Cycle was pretty
much 0% no matter what I did. This was in rush hour stop and go traffic.
All the vacuum lines and connections look good and everything worked
just fine for 2,000 miles since the cam swap.
Any ideas?

Re: DTC P0400 EGR System
96-97 egrs tend to be faulty. There's actually a service bulletin about it. You should be able to take your car to the dealer and have them replace it, assuming you can't tell that your car has been extensively modded. Your sig says you're not running headers. Sometimes this code comes if you install headers, because the egr doesn't have enough exhaust backpressure to circulate. Since you don't have headers, I'm going to go with a faulty egr. If you don't want to do any of this, just rig up an egr simulator. Good luck.

Thanks for the info ssbowtie1.
I don't recall receiveing any bulletin on the EGR but I will check my files.
So you say the EGR is the weak link for 96-97. Is there another year
EGR that fits and is a better design?
You can't tell my car is modded so it may be worth a trip to the dealer.
Ususally when an emmissions related device is recognized as faulty by
the mfg they extend the warranty period. I will have to check into this.
