when you push start a manual that has no affect on the alt. what it does is jumps the starter, just like if you were to take a screwdriver and touch both connections on the starter. it just gives the starter a boost without the battery.

Not the starter but the motor, if you push start a car the transmission acts as the starter turning your motor over. You have to have the key on though.

Yea, the starter has nothing to do with manual start. Nor does the battery. But, you'll need some juice to power the injectors, coil.

Guys stop. If you dont believe it just go outside remove one of the cables. The car will run without battery. BUT if the hot side of the cables touches the car or any metal grounds it will stop.
Ive done this several times when one of my batterys goes dead and noone had jumper cables. Just borrowed the battery to start and drove the car home.

I agree with you to a point, but if your wiring is in good shape and your alternator is working properly you can unhook the positive cable after the car has started and the car will not die. done it several times on my 97 T/A and my 93 T/A. If you have any kind of short on your battery cables it will kill it.
