Dropping Oil Pan

Dropping Oil Pan
I just wanted to post this since I found many therioes on how to drop the oil pan. My Z is a 96. All that is required to do it is 1. Remove flywheel cover. 2. Remove starter. 3. Remove Y pipe. 4. Remove motor mount bolts. 5. Remove the intake elbow. Then put a block of wood on the jack so you dont colapse the oil pan and jack it up. put the bolts for motor mount back in the holes. If you lower it down on those it will be to low. I raised it up about 1/2 to 1 inch above where it would rest on the bolts then cut wood blocks (maybe 7 inches) and put them in between the motor mounts standing up. After that the pan came out with no problems. Now to fix the 3 exhaust flange bolts I broke off. I guess tonight I remove the manifold. I hope this helps someone.
Oh yes after step 5 remove the oil pan bolts.

Try drilling the broken studs out without removing the manifold if at all possible. I did an pan replacement but opted to take off the manifold to repair the studs. The bolts on the manifold were frozen into the head and snapped when I tried to loosen them and I had soaked them with PB Buster for 2 days prior to removal. I then had to drill the head and heli-coil the thread holes. So be careful.

The manifold came off with no problem. 2 of the studs came out with my stud remover tool but the third was very difficult but I did finally get it out too. I also had a hard time getting the o2 sensor out. I wanted to remove it so I didn't get fluid all over it and to put anti seize on it for the future. Now I have to wait for the gaskets to arrive and find some studs to replace the broken ones.

The threads showing in one of the pictures is the passenger side k-member bolt closest to the front of the car. The first picture is the passenger motor mount and the second is the driverside motor mount (sorry for the upsidedown camara angle). not sure if it helps anyone but pictures sometimes make things easier.
