Driveshaft problem?

I have finally got my chassis close to right with my Moser on my 94 z28. I still have a bad vibration over 80MPH I cant seem to correct. I have set the pinion angle, U-joints are new, everything on the rear is tight. I also notice its a speed vibration, not a RPM driven vibration. Its starts at 80MPH and get worse from there. I also notice at 80MPH or above, the vibration subsides when I let off the gas. I believe its the STOCK driveshaft.

Anyone have this problem??? I know that GM had a problem with the stock steel shaft and replaced with the 1LE aluminum shaft. I am looking to replace it but my driveshaft was shortened because of the larger yoke on the Moser so I will need a custom built shaft. I am looking at Moser and Spohn products because they will build the shaft to the spec of your transmission, rear end type, yoke size and draveshaft length. I have the Spohn TA and LCA's and love them but I am skeptical their steel shafts will vibrate as well. Anyone owned either one of these? Anyone know anyone else who can customize a aluminum shaft for my application?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!! Should I go with the Moser or Spohn that will build the shaft to the exact specs I need? Would those steel driveshafts vibrate at all? Anyone have experiences with either shafts? What about aluminum shafts custom built? I may get my car to 500 BHP one day so I would take that in consideration as well. Will 500 BHP twist an aluminum shaft?

THANKS FOR ALL YOU GUYS FEEDBACK!!!!!

A lot of people around here making big power have been going to a Dennys NITROUS READY or HEAVY DUTY drive shaft with positive results. Good luck!

Mine does the EXACT same thing..I had a custom STEEL DS made for my moser 12 bolt and it vibrates also at 80+ mph..I dont wanna go back to aluminum but I dont wanna pay $350 for a DS also..

I got ripped on buying a used driveshaft and had the same problem. Mine seemed to get worse when I let off the gas but 80mph was the magic number. The vibration was really fast, not like when a wheel is out of balance/bent. Replaced it with a Lingenfelter ds, and all was well again.

Well, I found my slight vibration at 80mph..Somehow the weight on the front of the DS had came off..guess they didnt clean it good enough before welding it on.

I had a custom 3" steel driveshaft fabricated for my Moser 12-bolt, and I had a bad vibration that kicked in at 70 mph. I had the driveline shop that fabricated the shop access the problem, and they attibuted it to improper drivline angles due to lowering. They reset the driveline angles to -2.5 degrees for the both the transmission and rearend angles, instead of the normal positive trans angle and negative pinion angle. Almost all of the vibration is gone (90%), and the shop said the rest is due to motor vibration. They said the driveshaft was balanced very well to strict tolerances (forgot what they were).

But, I'm skeptical. The small amount of vibration doesn't feel like motor vibration, and it's only above 70 mph. Wouldn't a motor vibration be felt at the same RPM no matter the speed, or would the speed make it worse? Sounds like others have had problems with custom steel DS's also, and this makes me suspect the DS. The shop suggested steel as they said aluminum was not as strong, and said my steel (.083 wall?) driveshaft was good up to ~650 hp. Also, the car was lowered BEFORE I did this Moser install with the custom DS, and I had no vibration whatsoever with the stock DS and rearend. It seems odd to me that changing the stock housing to a Moser would require such a precise, computer-aided alignment of the driveline angles to avoid a HUGE vibration. Something doesn't add up....

Yeah, I have a poly trans mount too. It's gonna suck if I always have to have some vibration because of this steel shaft. I wanted a custom aluminum shaft originally, but they advised against it because of strength. Also, I was afraid that the aluminum shafts from Lingenfelter and others would have to be shortened to fit my car (as the stock would have been), thereby increasing the price already more than the $300. I also couldn't wait a week or more to ship a DS and not have a car to drive during the project.

Anyone have any suggestions? The shop says the steel shaft is balanced and that the angles are right, and they'e a 45 minute drive to have them check anything anyways. Hardly any other compentent shops in the area. I really don't want to have to pay another $300 for an aluminum shaft and THEN get it shortened.
