Drivers Side Long Tube took out Brake Lines!!!!
Drivers Side Long Tube took out Brake Lines!!!!
I left work last night and kinda got on it..... I lost my brakes???....It started smoking and I lost the brake pedal......I looked under the car and I was loosing brake fluid....I couldn't see anything last night so I got up first thing and looked at it, some how or another the header has melted the brake lines on the side of the engine compartment, right next to the Drivers side header, I don't know if the engine shifted or what happened......What do I need to do...Ideas and suggestions are Welcome....
when you mean "lost your brakes" do you really mean you couldnt stop at all?? i just installed my hooker LT's and this was one thing im REALLY worried about. i tucked them away as much as i could, and covered them in heat reflective tape. thanks for sharing, ill def. keep an eye on them.
How long are those loine???? I am not sure where they disconnect????
Hey Chris you coming up for TEA dyno day with that new setup????
1995redZ28
I lost them almost completely....I could push the pedal it would go to the floor and it would kinda slow down...everytime I hit the brakes there was a big cloud of smoke I didn't use them because of that....Had to limp home with just the tranny slowing me down......Didn't want to catch anything on fire or anything...

I don't think they were as close as they are now....I am thinking the motor shifted over or something.....I have a K member I am thinking something has broke or came loose and shifted....I am gonna go look at it here in a few....
get some steel braided liens and run it away from the header.
to answer your question-
if all the fluid leaks our, you will lose your brakes yes. However its doubtlful that your pedal will be completely usess. All the fluid wont leak out and only 1 corner wont stop.

I'v heard of this prob.a while back, could'nt figure this one out since the brake lines are steel~coated headers?~mine has a heat sheild!~yours melted?but how?by the way after hearing of this prob.,I just took my heat sheild off and silaconed a layer of thermotech wrap to the inside of the heatsheild~no problems after 25,000mi(so far).
I was wondering about this as well. My Number 1 primary is sitting on that heat shield for the brake lines. I have not run the car yet cause I am still working on the tranny install but this has been bothering me, I know the motor will shift up a little when the tranny goes back in, it will tilt forward but my primary may still be sittin on the shield for the brake lines, I guess I will have to do something about this.
More stuff to relocate.
Can the header really melt through a steel brake line?
I figured it would just get hot and I might have a boiling prob to deal with but if it can totally take out the line then I need to do something.

every car is different! my buddies long tubes dont touch the brake lines but mine did! my #1 primary was right on my brake line! i left it for awhile but of course it finally burned thru it one day and i could smell that brake fluid burning up! had to run new brake line... wasnt too bad though! go to napa and get a VERY long brake line! its tuff to measure out so what you'll need to do is get a piece of string and measure out around where you wanna run the brake line!
I am gonna look at some pics I took after the install and see how close it was...I also have burnt through the coating on the cruise control....Whoo Hoo....But first and foremost the brake lines for now....Where exactly did you guys route the new lines?????Pics Maybe??? Thanks Ben
