Drilling out the IAC passage in the TB?

Would it let the car idle better if the idle air passage leading to the IAC motor in the TB was drilled out to be a bigger size? it doesnt look like it can nearly support the idle needs of a healthy 383

Any suggestions? If drilling it, how big?

alright i got the pics, which is a better option, drilling tb or this? putting a valve inline to control the air flow would give some good options?

just drill it out. It took 15 min and i have had no problems. My car would almost die at an idle when i turned the A/C on but now it doesn't even drop any RPM's at all.

what size did you drill it to?

i was talking to rob, and we thought it might be better to try this hose mod with a valve in it to adjust the air necessary. so i think i might do that. however, wont teh car run lean at idle using the tube? or not? because you are using metered air behind the MAF?

i don't remember the size. There was a post on it and i believe Dr. Mudge knew the size to drill it to so if you can't find it maybe you can ask him.

I have a 383, 11.8:1 compression, Xtreme 236/242 cam, all the bolt ons, etc.

With the stock throttle body, my car idled awesome. Now with the 58MM I am having to do some tweaking.

I you have having idle problems, I would check out some other things first.

Does drilling you TB help if your motor is stock and is a 93?

If so what effects will there be? good /bad?

i have done the Extra idle air mod on my 383.. my car wouldnt even start when i first got it together and the way the iac pasage is on the 58mm bbk you cant really drill it out like the stock tb.. if you have a stock its very easy to drill that iac hole bigger. but be carefull a size troo big and your car will idle too high. anyway the extra idle air worked great for me. you migh just want to try that.

no benefits on a stock car. really useful for big cam cars that dont like to idle and cant get enough air through that small hole.

this being said, can the pcm still control idle speed with this tube setup? i guess what i am asking, is does it use the IAC motor to control idle speed?

or will this hose setup work like stock?

RESULTS OF PROJECT: THE NUMBERS....

ENGINE IDLES WITH 25-38 STEPS OF I.A.C. (BEFORE 80-100 STEPS WITH BLADES CRACKED OPEN)
THROTTLE BLADES ARE 100% CLOSED AT IDLE
TPS VOLTAGE CORRECTED TO 0.61 AT IDLE FROM 0.8 VOLTS
BLOCK LEARNS TRIMMED OUT
S.E.S. CODE 21 IS NOW GONE AT W.O.T.
OFF THROTTLE RESPONSE IMPROVED DRAMATICALLY
ENGINE SMOOTHED OUT DRAMATICALLY ACCROSS THE POWER BAND, NOTED KNOCK COUNTS DRAMATICALLY DROPPED TO ALMOST NONE

Same for me
