Question Down shifting

When I try to down shift from 6th to 5th for some reason the shifter won't go into 5th gear. If I down shift to 4th and then up to 5th it works fine Does this mean that my trans is going bad or what.

Are you certain that you are not hitting Reverse instead of 5th?

Positive. This has been going on for a year now. At first I thought it might be the worn out clutch that was causing it, but now it is still doing it with the new clutch. At first I thought it might be normal untill I askrd another T56 owner and he said he can go from 6th to 5th.
