I think you're going to find the common response to be:

Duh.

Why would you do that?

The best thing to do would be to come to a complete stop before even pushing the button to move the shifter. Defying this could ruin u joints, tranny mounts... shift linkages etc.

Sounds more like you broke a u-joint if the DS is hitting the underside of the car.

You should be glad that your tranny mount is the only thing that broke. You won't do that too many times before more serious damage is done.

Yeah it was dumb. I looked under it though and saw the mount is cracked. The driveshaft is ok. I'll never do that again. I was just posting so maybe someone will see it and avoid doing it when they're in a hurry.

Dont go from reverse to drive either...my dad had a bad habbit of this in his squad car that had a hopped up LT1 in it and that was part of the reason it ate up 4 tranny's in 150k miles.

Yeah, here is the hot ticket for huge burnouts.
Get on a hill and put it in neutral, let the car roll backwards now rev the SH** out of it and drop it into drive.
You will get to see what the parts inside your tranny look like after they come shooting through the pan.
This is a sarcastic comment, please do not try this at home.

It doesn't hurt it if you're moving slowly going from reverse to drive. I do it all the time, but from the talks in this post, it sounds like you guys see people going 20mph in reverse and slamming it in drive and mashing the gas. That's a big no no. Haha. When I go from reverse to drive, I'm going like 2-3 mph. There is no way I could come to a complete stop, shift, and wait for the tranny to electronically shift it's slow self, besides, if you do it right, it goes into gear just a split second after you're pretty much stopped.
