doing a water pump removal/install got a couple questions
Okay first off does anyone have a step by step walk-me-through process of removing the water pump and then installing the new one. Im just swapping a stock replacement one, im not doing the electric ones or anything. Any tips or anything would be great.
Also, there is an o-ring on the spline shaft coming out of the engine, is that supposed to be replaced during the water pump change as well?
thank you
Cory

Here's a drawing that might help.http://csce.uark.edu/~jgbertr/rb/ci/water_pump.jpg
You should get yourself a good manual so you have it right at your fingertips. GM manuals are the best and can be obtained from www.helminc.com for a pricey $90. Definitely worth it though.

Yes I know. I have a GM manual already and now for some reason I can't view that manual I just downloaded. Hmmm Go figure.

I just upgraded to version 6.0 probably while you were typing that response. Thanks, It works now. Nice to have all the part numbers. That's what's in the far right column right?

My manual recommends changing it so I did. The new O ring can be damaged by pushing it onto the splines so use something to ease it onto the splines. I used the cone shaped cap off a bottle of gear lube.

This is a good guide for changing a water pump. Just ignore the electric water pump part. It has good instructions for taking the water pump out.

Can you get the seal for the waterpump shaft at autozone or is that a dealer part? If it is a dealer part what is the part number? I am asking cause my waterpump is starting to barely weep. I need to change mine here soon.
