DOING REAR SWAP 10 bolt for 10 bolt, few ?s

My gears broke in my 10 bolt, they howled but lasted over a year and a half, now instead of switching gears again (2.73s - 3.73s) broke the 3.73s. I was going to just swap rear ends with 1 of 2 guys. 1 guy its out of a 96 LT1 without traction control (I have traction control) other guy is out of a 01 LS1 T/A with traction control, but wants 50 bucks more and I gota switch around the brakes, will LT1 brakes fit on LS1 hub? WHich route should i go? 96 or 01?

The 96 will be the easiest. the LS1 will take a lot of changing around(ABS, brake lines, etc.)

Personal opinion is you should be upgrading to a 12 bolt.

The ls1 rearend will work but you must know that you have to use the axles from your lt1 rear end there is aproximately 1/8" difference per axle ls1 axles are shorter. Your calipers will grind on your rotors if you use the ls1 axles. I found out the hard way I tore up my rotors and ended up running spacers behind the rotors until I found some lt1 axles. good luck.

The LS1 rear is a direct swap as long as you use your old axles and backing plates. The axles are slightly different lengths, so your LT1 brakes won't fit without using LT1 axles. The backing plates are a 30 second swap with air tools, four bolts on each and the flanges are the same on both rears.

trial and error is the main way I've learned about these cars. If it can be broke I've broke it, If it comes off I've had it off. That sort of learning is the best way to know everything about your specific car.
