Doing LT1 Intake Gasket Fix But Have a Few New Questions

I could not find a full guide on how to do this so I have a few questions on what works best and if there are any short cuts.

Questions are:

1. Is there a guide on how to do this that I missed?

2. If I've done the TB bypass, do I still need to drain the coolant?

3. How long has just RTV fixes worked? I don't want something that only works for 20k then starts leaking. Is it better to use a thin paper or cork gasket along with RTV (The Right Stuff)?

4. Does the throttle body have to be removed?

5. Anything else that helps or short cuts?

1. Part of the cam install guide on my Tech Page includes how to install the intake.

2. No.

3. The RTV works if done correctly. Add no gasket. It will only squish out.

4. Not if you don't want to, but it's only 4 bolts when you dont' have to worry about the coolant hoses..

5. See #1.

On the felpro gasket instruction insert it stats to put a small dab of the supplied black rtv on certain places of the intake gasket facing the intake manifold. Should I really do this?

Not sure exactly where it says, but I'm sure it would not hurt anything.

That too but I mean exactly this. The picture shows putting small dabs on the gasket while it states to leave it dry:

Also, the gaskets themselves have tabs on each end that I guess are used to secure them to the heads. Do I leave those on? The one side looks like it would interfer with a flush mount because the tab is not flat with the gasket.

apply a 3/8 bead on front and back let it setup for a couple of mins then lower the manifold down lowly .align the hole`s so you don't` move it back and forth this is the key ! I never had one that's leak. hope this helps.

It will probably all make sense once I start doing it.

You can leave the locating pins on there (you don't need small dabs of RTV when using the pins). If you follow what is on my website, there should be no problem.

Just got my intake off and RTV seemed to be intact...front was a pita to get all of the RTV off, razor blade.

The Rear RTV peeled off really easy! could that have been my leak? The RTV came off in like three pieces by just pulling and the intake and block are nearly clean, seems it didn't stick to either surface, maybe oil was slipping through?

Thats is where it leaking I would guess, look on the back of the block and see if you have oil there.Go over every thing with brake cleaner on a clean rag every thing must be free from oil and let your rtv setup over nite good luck! also watch small area around to oil sending unit make sure have good bead in this area.

I did a cam swap about a year or so ago and i used Felpro gaskets o the intake and put a few dabs on the gasket and cleaned the intake and where it sits real good and put a nice bead of RTV and it hasnt leaked at all. I made sure i had more in the corners where the heads start to make sure a good seal and i let it sit for about a day or two. Now im putting a set of new heads and intake on and when i took my old intake off the RTV was stuck on pretty good.

What type of RTV was used and how long did you let the bead sit before you put the intake on? Sounds like it might have skinned over too much to stick to the intake.
