Doing head gasket + longtubes

In about 1.5 months I will embark on replacing my head gasket(s), longtube install, full tuneup and 1.6rr's. My question is...since I will be removing the heads anyway, would it be easter to remove the ypipe and keep the manifolds attached to the head as I remove them. Basically remove each head w/ the manifold still attached. Or is this not possible?

PULL IT ALL apart seperately, you will have a bunch LESS headaches!
what is the reason for new headgaskets?
will you be installing NEW valve springs as well?
with the heads off it will be the most opportune time to freshen those heads up!

you will probably HAVE to take the manifold off seperately so you can get to the lower row of headbolts.

also longtubes? I thought i sold you a set of mids? did you not like them?

You will have to have the manifolds off, why would you want them attached anyhow? Are you looking for some leverage to pull the head out or something?

No I just thought it would be easier to take the header bolts out if they were out of the car.

No, those were great they weren't for me. I bought them to put on my brothers car...which still is yet to happen.

And ya I forgot about the lower row of headbolts under the manifolds.....So the whole idea is shot now...dangit

Gotcha, they aren't too bad, but as pointed out above, you will want to blast them with a rust penetrant and do so several times over. After that, it will be a combination of getting at them from both the top and bottom of the car.

Because I have an external leak on one bank. Ya it's weird but its leaks on the outside of the head. It probably has something to do w/ the head warping. It's been over heated a couple times, not by me though.
