Does spec clutch cause "jolting" starts?
Does spec clutch cause "jolting" starts?
I recently installed a spec stage II Kevlar clutch in my 97 Z. It seems that I can no longer start smoothly under normal driving conditions. It feels as if when the clutch is almost fully engaged that its jumping and you can feel it in the car. I noticed my friends identical 97 SS does the same with his spec clutch. Best way to describe it is like this: With stock clutch I was able to start off from a stop witout giving any gas and it would be perfectly smooth. With the spec you start getting a lot of jolting and clunking. I had the clutch installed correctly, flywheel turned, all bolts properly torqued. Is this normal for this clutch?
Thanks
P.S. a new LT4 PP also went in during clutch change.

I was going to ask if you turned the flywheel and if you did, then the only conclusion I can come to is it's fast engagement is causing it. Keep in mind that those clutches do tend to engage much faster then a stock clutch, you may wanna try playing around in a parking lot and just ease out on the clutch very very slowly and apply no gas till the car gets off to a roll, you may just be depressing the pedal a little too quick...
