does not start
I own a 1995 Z28 camaro. I currently had a problem where it wouldnt start. I replaced the distrubutor cap and rotor, since my rotor was completly melted. After I installed that i put my car back together and tried to start it. The car wouldnt start of course. So then I had replaced the Ignition control module, and the coil. The car still wouldnt start so therefore i got another coil, and yet still doesnt start. I have no spark comin from my spark plugs, but yet my fuel pump does work. I just dont get what else to try. I spent over $3000 trying to get my car to start, and yet it just doesnt like to start up for me. After I put in the cap and rotor my car ran for 10 mins, but then shut it self off. Am I just playing with junk or is there someway i could get my car running again?? My next step is to replace the computer again, but yet i dont think that is going to solve my problem. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be wrong with my car?? Please help for I want my car back I'm sick of driving a Jeep!!
Sounds like you need to change the whole distributor, not just the cap and rotor. The symptoms you described and the fact that the rotor was melted are pretty common of an opti failure. I bet when you pull the cap and rotor off again that the rotor will be melted like the first time. LT1 distributors are a higher maintainece type of distributor than what's in most vehicles.
If you use the search function here you can probably find a place that has good deals on them so you can save some money.

Does the car actually try to turn over, or does it just do nothing at all.
If it does nothing at all, you more than likely have a bad ground wire (check battery posts, engine block ground, starter wires etc.) Also could be a bad safety switch. (can test that by hot wiring the starter
If it tries to turn over, gets a little more complicated. Are you sure that you aligned the opti properly with the pin in the slot all the way?

i'd almost gauruntee its the part behind the rotor on the distributor. When an Opti (distributor) goes bad, the whole deal needs replaced. What happens is the rear seal of the distributor pretty much disintegrates, lets water in, which ruins the electronics behind the rotor, and when that seal wears away, the rotor will not run in a true circle. it'll just kinda flop around as it pleases, contacting the cap, hitting posts, whatever. so the whole deal needs replaced.
