does this idle sound right? (video)

finally finished up my motor and decided to record an idle clip so i could show people at work. listening to it though it almost sounds like a rod is beating its self to death or something. not sure if its just the open headers and im just hearing a dominant exhaust pulse or what. let me know if it sounds straight or if i should be worried. im gonna strain the oil tonight anyway but want to hear some opinions.

edit: forgot to add the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU3T-bV7vnI

Hard to hear well, but it almost sounds like a rod knock in there. Some mufflers would help.

strained the oil and didnt find much. extremely small amount of silver flake. the motor only has about 5 mins run time so i think that may be normal. ive heard new motors tend to have some metal in the oil as it breaks in. not sure if i can get my muffler hooked up but will try to get my y pipe on tomorrow to at least quiet it down a bit up front. the sound in the video sounds different depending on what computer i listen to it on. mine makes it sound normal, i think, but i also have a little sub. at work with only the internal speakers on a laptop the motor sounds like it is knocking real bad. any suggestions on finding out if its ok or not? i want to run it as little as possible until i find out if my motor is fine.

Sounds like it is to me, but hook up that exhaust, I cant hear it until a few seconds after start up... so maybe it is the exhaust.

i think it might be the vid. b/c you couldn't really hear it while you were upfront.

how does it sound in real person? can you hear anything then? also sounds like you need to adjust your rockers, but then again it could still just be my crappy laptop speakers.

and on the metal was it a really fine glitter or tiny shavings? how is oil pressure and are you getting oil out of all the rockers?

the metal was just tiny pieces of silver. could barely see them in the strainer. oil pressure on the gauge shows steady 60 psi. not much oil up top at idle but when i revved it, oil shot all over the cardboard. was thinking i might need to readjust my valves as well. thinkin too loose? they are only half a flat preload. sounds fine up front now as far as knocking goes. just freaks you out when you hear what sounds like a rod beating itself to death on a brand new motor with alot of money in it.

yeah i know what you mean! but if it sounds ok in person then i would just say its your camera picking up a wierd resonance or something.

and that sounds about right for the oiling, at an idle it will just dribble at a constant pace out of the oiling holes.

as far as the lash goes i would go back though and do the engine running method, it will help get maximum performance and is still fairly easy.

Sounds almost like a loose converter bolt, or something along those lines... maybe a flywheel bolt... don't know if your car is A4 or M6. But either way it sounds like a rotating (circular) noise and not so much an up and down noise.

I had that sound once and it was because one of my rockers were loose. The lifter ended up banging the cam so much that it took off half of a cam lobe.
