Question Does a gasket exist?

Hey,

I am working on a 1995 Camaro Z28 and I was tired of the tick, tick, tick noise my car makes, so I put it up on jacks and located the leak at the cross over pipe and manifold on the passenger side. I picked up 2 gaskets from the dealer. The one looks close the other looks like its more for the cat. The gaskests are grey with a metal ring similar to a head gasket. Are they correct? I called a local Pep boys equivillant (Parts Source in Canada) and they showed no gaskets.

Any one know if they're should be anything there? I looked in my GM Service manual and didn't find any mention of these gaskets

Thanks guys

I found out this morning that the gaskets I got are for a California emissions car, so they're no good....

Now that I have the car apart, I guess just drop the crossover and clean up the connections with some sand paper and put it back together? Is there anything I should use between the 2 parts to seal them up?

Thanks

I was thinking of that, the one looks like it could be used, but I would need anoter to match it. They would have to sort of float about half way between the 2 parts, and I am not sureit would pull down and seal just right.

Do they make something at an Auto parts store to use to seal up the 2 parts? I was thinking I would just need two new donuts and be on my way....

Thanks

I don't recall any gaskets on mine, just a "ball and socket" type of connection. Just clean it up, put some anti-seize on the studs and tighten up evenly.

Ok, thanks for the help. I hope it seals up because the studs were tight when I went to drop it, and I wasn't too happy with the idea of getting out my impact wrench. No broken studs and only one stud removed from the manifold.

Just tighten her down even and hope for the best.

Thanks

Just to follow up....

I finished it up and when I was looking for my anti-seeze, I found this new tube of a muffler leak preventor. I read the back and they suggested it for use on the manifold to cross over, so I thought bonus. I put the stuff on and you have to be quick b/c it starts to harden. I cranked down the nuts and some of the stuff squeezed out the top and my exhaust leak was gone.

The rest of the noise is bad wires. One of the wires was vibrating a lot so I reached in to see where I could put it and where it should be and the ticking or the arching went away.

I follow up in a few days if she's still quiet, neat product, can't remember the name....

The name of that product was Muffler Quiet and the car has been quiet, at least up front and with that wire put back where it should be the car runs so much better, lots of power, but now has a tranny band slipping when you nail it 80 km/h it slips and bounces of the rev limiter at 120 km/h.

Oh well, fix one thing, find another...
