Does anyone know the difference in head bolt torque between 95-96?

I know all 96-up are TTY bolts (torque to yield). Anyway I have the 96 but with ARP bolts. The specs in the Haynes manula calls for all 95 and earlier 65 FT/LB. The 96-up require 22in/lb then 67 degrees and for the long bolts an additional 80 degrees. Can I just torque the head down to 65? or just do the reccomended Degrees?? any help would be greatly appreciated~~~rob

My opinion would be to use the regular (older) torque values if not using torque to yield bolts. Makes sense to me. Don't hold me responsible and get some more opinions.

Cool

You're supposed to use the ARP torque values. 60# if you use ARP teflon sealant. Do three passes like 20 - 40 - 60.

AND check this out ... you'll love this.

ARP recommends that you RETORQUE ALL HEAD BOLTS after the first heat cycle. That means removing the headers and rockers!!

Does anyone actually do this?

WOW, that is a load of crap. HAHAHHAHHA Re-torque the head bolts, man that would be suicide to knuckle skin all in one sitting.

This is funny, the ARP instructions say that if ARP moly lube is NOT used it could cause head gasket failure

Sounds like they just want you to buy their stuff.

The point of torque to yield bolts is that they eliminate any need to retorque, so ARP can keep their head bolts. I like most of their parts, but re-torquing one of these motors is a big waste of time.

Any other thoughts on this? How about torque up to 5 ft/lb over and forget about it??
