You can have a cam custom ground any way you like it.

I thought there was a Crane cam in that area.... look around here it's not all about the duration. There is enough stuff on both sides of that range that will work AWESOME, say a CC503 or a GM846.

224/230 112 lsa by comp. Some guys get them ground on 110 LSA's to get a little more lope.

that would be a good idea. What would you use for Valve springs on this cam? I would rather go with duals on his. I'm not a fan of the 918 spring because I had a bad set and most of them broke, I was very lucky that i found it before I had valves kissing the pistons. I'm running Patriot duals in my LS1 but will they fit directly on an LT1 head?

Patriot does make a kit for LT1's, but I haven't seen a single 918 failure on this site. Did you have the old batch that failed on you?

No, it was the new ones with the blue stripe. Almost all of them broke right under the retainer. I even had the comp retainers and had them set at 1.800. My cam should not of even came close to coil bind because the most lift I have is on the exhaust at 573. i sent them to comp and they said it was a bad batch. They sent me a new set but I just sold them and bought Patriot Golds. The duals give me a little more comfort

That sucks, hopefully it was an isolated incident. I'm sure the patriot springs will handle the cc503 easily.

i run a cc503 cam with the crane 10308-1 dual spring kit and 1.6 gmpp rr. nice kit comes with dual valve springs, shims, locks, and retainers and is relatively cheap as well at 155 for everything at summit.

Thats an install issue.... you don't just break coils. Incidentally if you use a barrel spring mic, don't take into account the .150" step and setup the springs that way..... 1.800"(mic reading)-.150" = 1.650" installed height, 1.650"-.573"=1.077" when coil bind is @ 1.085" yep pretty easy to have "most of them broke" when you run them past coil bind.

If MOST of the springs break its a install error, you don't just have a random batch that MOST break, the probablity that you would have lets just say 4 springs break out of 16 while i've had 0 break out of 3200+ is pretty much impossible.

FWIW in 200+ sets of Beehive springs i've never had 1 break, thankfully they were all installed correctly.

they were all installed corectly. I used the stock shims like comp told me and the correct retainers. Comp said that they were just bad because they said that the top of the spring was ground down too thin where the retainer sets on it. They said it has happened before. The new set I got was alot differant. I still didn't want to use them since they were a single. So the install was just fine but the spring was junk. They even were a differant color compared to all the other 918 springs I have seen. Comp also said that wasn't right. They said that the heat treating wasn't done properly. So if you ever get a set of 918s that are almost silver in color do not use them. Duals cost more but I think you get what you pay for.
