Does a 97 LT1 water pump have a weep hole at the bottom?

My car has been overheating about once a week i guess i am lossing colant somewhere only that i can think of that i wouldnt be able to see is the weep hole in the water pump because if it leaked while the car was running it would probly not drip on to the ground.

DO water pump start going out or do they just go out ?

Your pump has a weep hole. WP generally go out slowly. Most frequently the seal around the bearing goes out first (weeping starts) and then the bearing goes days, weeks or maybe months later. When it weeps replace it and don't wait.

When the pump on my 97 was going out, it did weep and it was obvious. Took it for a 5 min trip to my buddies house, let it idle while I knocked on the door, turned around and could see the puddle walking back to the door. If it is a small amount of coolant you losing, maybe a head gasket? Just a thought

SOmetimes they go fairly quick and sometimes it takes a while. For those that experience rapid failure, I'll bet that it actually had been weeping a small amount for a while, but it went unnoticed. Once coolant gets past the seal and into the WP bearing it will fail, but not that quick.
