Do you really need to remove the crank sprocket during cam swap?

Im in the middle of doing my cam swap and have the cam out. On shoebox's site, it says to remove it and the renstall it. Is this to get the timing chain back on? any help would be great.

Remove the crank sprocket? I don't think so... I've never done a cam swap on an LT1 of course, but I've Re&Re a camshaft on blocks that are on an engine stand. The crank sprocket was always on, never came off. You sure it didn't say cam sprocket?

yes, crank sprocket. Just making sure the new timing chain will go on no problems. Thanks for the reply

why not put on a new timing set while you have it tore down?
it would be good insurance.....

This Jesse agrees with that Jesse.

I did just the chain when I did my head/cam install and the new chain was fairly loose, if not looser than the old one. Reason: the sprockets will wear as well.

If you've got a 95, just go ahead and buy a Cloyes double roller. They are only 70...

If you're 94 and lower, conver to 95+ stuff so you can run the Cloyes chain.

Remove it to replace it, but otherwise no.

I just edited the page to alleviate any confusion.
