Do you have to take the heads off to remove the motor from the top?

I have the manifold off already, I just dont feel like taking the heads off... Can I pull the motor through the top with the heads still attached? Any tips?

I pulled my motor out the top with everything on it including intake. It was a pita but I did. The engine will come out easy with the heads on. I took out the fans, radiator and condenser of course. It is much easier going out the bottom I'm sure, but I have never done it so I don't know.

Did you remove it with the tranny attached? If so, did you need a load leveler on the cherry picker?

Leave the heads on.Remove the front accessories and balancer weight and come on out turning the front of the engine to the driver's side. You will have to angle the engine nose high.Unbolt the AC and leave it in the car. There is no need to remove the AC condenser, leave the AC system intact. You may have to loosen the bolts on the AL brake module, just to let the engine slip by.

EDIT:Leave the tranny in the car.

Put mine back in from the top with everything attached minus the accessories. Put a chain from side to side on the front of the motor and then also attached one to the back to get the right tilt. Slid right in.

Go ahead and take the tranny off.

First time I didn't hook the chain far enough forward...so I had to hook it a little closer to the front so it would angle like it did in the 2nd pic.

I left my hood on too. There's a thread from back in April-ish of '03 with everything I did...I think LOL

Header? Or the stock exhuaust manifold? I haven't put my Long tubes in yet, so I can't comment, but check your motor mounts.

http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...highlight=pull

Might have to dimple the header...there's a ton of posts on hitting headers that should have some solutions.
