Do I need PCM mod. for 3200 stall?
Do I need PCM mod. for 3200 stall?
Hey guys, I just did a bunch of stuff (port. heads/cam etc) to my 95 formula including a 3200 stall Vigilante torque converter. I took it to HPE here in Houston and had Chuck tune it. After driving it for a few days, it seems like the tranny is constantly shifting. I asked Chuck if he tuned my PCM for the Vig, and he told me that he bumped up the shift points about 5 mph, but that's all that is necessary. Is this true?

Re: Do I need PCM mod. for 3200 stall?
you need to be more specific on what the tranny is doing because there is something called obd1 stall problem. anyhting over a 2800 stall usually will not wont to shift from first to second. like if your were staging and stalled it up to 3200 it would not want to shift into second.
do a search on obd1 stall problem and see if thats your problem.

Re: Do I need PCM mod. for 3200 stall?
I'm not having the typical obd1/big stall problems with shifting into 2nd and what not. I'm pretty sure that's because this transmission was race built by PMAC. The only problem I've noticed is when I'm not stomping on it, it upshifts at a pretty low RPM (around 2600 or so), so then I'm in second gear at like 1300 rpms and I'm barely accelerating, so I have to give it a little more gas and then it downshifts. So basically, if I'm just cruisin' around, the tranny is constantly upshifting and downshifting.
I guess I just need to explain it to Chuck and see if he can adjust my shift points for me.

The chart i had to fill out from madz28 wants you to spesifiy if you have a converter or not. Also do you have different gears in your car...mine shifted wierd with the 4.10s before i had a tune.
