Post Do I need a new console for A4-M6 conversion in a 97 fbody?

I will soon be doing the A4 to M6 conversion for my 1997 Trans Am. I was told by the salvage yard (where I am buying the conversion kit) that since I have the newer style console that I will only need the M6 shifter tray. Does this sound right to anyone? I've always heard you need to swap out the whole console for this conversion.

Nope, all you need is the M6 shifter tray. I did the same swap on my '95 (A4 to M6 + console) I found an complete auto console and just bought the M6 shift tray.

Actually, I think they were being cheap (ie cost efficient) so they could use the same console and just change the tray
