If you're paying to have it replaced, there is no difference for the labor portion of the bill to replace the whole unit or just the cap. One of the problems with optis is the bearing. Therefore if somone else is doing the labor, have them replace the whole unit. Get the price for labor UPFRONT.

You should know a few different things before you agree to it however. First, know how much an opti for your vehicle costs on the street. But only argue about AC Delco since the dealer is not going to use anything else. Summit has an ACDelco for $389.00.

Dal can probably give you a much better price. However, find out what the part warranty and the labor warranty is if you provide the opti or they provide the opti. There could be quite a difference.

When you get a chance, put a mark on the back of the opti with white-out or a sharpie marker if you still have the vehicle in your posession. When and if you agree to have them change out the opti, demand the return of the old one to you or you won't pay the bill.

Do not agree to any higher labor charges unless you are contacted BEFORE any other work is done. Know up front if you have any other conditions such as timing cover gasket issues or the like. It's also a good idea to change the seals in the timing cover while you're there since they have to be uncovered at the time the opti is installed. The water pump should be changed also. Although it can be changed later with little problem if it hasn't been done in long while.

replacing the cap without the rotor is like changing oil without filter.

and like stated you may want to think about replacing the whole opti, ebay has some cheaper alternatives

Try EBAY, all ignition sells a whole new opti, with a better cap for 159.00, a cap and rotor will cost you 125.00.
