Do I have everything I need for a head/cam job, list inside.
Do I have everything I need for a head/cam job, list inside.
Hey all. I am FINALLY installing my Comp Cam 230/236 cam, TEA "stage 3" heads, port mached intake manifold. I ordered the following items from combonationmotorsports, is there anything missing on this list that you think I should have?
Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 7/16 non-self aligning RR's
Comp Came Guide Plate
Comp Cams "R" lifters
Comp Cams "spider web things" that hold the lifter down.
Comp Cams Hardened 7.200" push rods
Comp Cams 7/16 Rocket Studs
FULL gaskets (impala head, felpro header, etc. etc...)
Oil Pan Gasket (motor will be out)
ARP Head Bolt Kit
Bosch 30lbs injectors
CSI Water Pump (why not since im in there)
ARP Flywheel Bolts (also while im in there)
Cloyes True Double Timing Chain
Oil pressure Sending unit (yea i know, i broke it doin headers)
The heads are already assembled with springs, locks, and titanium retainers, So if your wondering why they are not on the list, it is becuase I have them already. Am I missing anything? Anyone want to give an estimate to the RWHP, I was given an approx estimate of 420rwhp by CMotorsports. What you guys think?

Re: Do I have everything I need for a head/cam job, list inside.
Since youre pulling the motor anyway I think I would check bearings and replace if they look even slightly worn, might as well, at the most it will be another 200 $ for bearings and having the crank turned if needed.
Are the springs going to be with the new heads?
Might as well put in a fresh oil pump , mellings stock replacements are only 15.99 through Jegs.

Sounds like you got about everything. That HP figure sounds a bit optomistic though to me.
Have you pulled the engine yet? I would check the compression. If its not where it should be, it might be better off to just rebuild it. If not a rebuild, it would definitly be a good idea to throw in new bearings while its out. It's not uncommon for the bottom end to let go after a heads/cam swap.
I've got everything for my heads/cam swap, but I'm consittering finding a rebulidable shortblock and building a whole new engine. I figure I could sell my current engine for about the cost to buy and machine the short block.
