Do edelbrock throttle bodys whistle?

I just got done putting on my ported intake manifold and 58mm edelbrock tb and now it whistles at idle. The best way to describe it I guess is it kind of sounds like I have a blower.

Re: Do edelbrock throttle bodys whistle?

could be normal, but i've had loose throttle bodies making the same sound. big vaccum leak.

Try spraying some carb cleaner around your TB, and listen to the engine idle. If the rpms rise as you spray near the TB, you have a vaccum leak.

good luck!

The BBK whistles because they leave casting flash in the IAC passage. I'm pretty sure the Edelbrock is the same throttle body as the BBK.

Mine whistled. Note the past tense. I took a sanding roll and a dremel and smoothed the entry edges on the IAC inlet. No more whistle.

Here's a write-up on BBK's site about the whistling:

As Injuneer said, BBK=Edelbrock as far as the 58mm TB is concerned.

The of the inlet that is on the bottom of the TB under the plate?

I don't know if you are interested, but I know someone who wants one of the whistlers (the later model Edelbrock/BBK didn't whistle) so if you want to get rid of it and are interested in a trade for a newer non whistler Edelbrock/BBK plus a little cash, shoot me a PM.

Nope. If you're looking straight at the TB, you'll see the "airfoil" in the center with the hole on the bottom half of it. That's the IAC Inlet.

Well its definatly the throttle body doing it, the loud whistle is coming out of the air filter. I mean its loud, I can hear it when I'm driving over my true duals. I guess if I ever pull of the TB i'll smooth out the inlet.

I have the 52MM Edelbrock/BBK, I've had for several years. It has never whistled.

For future reference, I just purchased an Edelbrock 58mm TB. There is a whistle present and my next step is to remove the TB and file down the edges around the IAC.

Also, the Edelbrock TB has hex bolts made of soft alloy. I am removing the one on the lower left and it stripped. I recommend removing the thermostat housing to get a better angle but mine was in there for less than a day and it stripped on removal. They send bolts since they have a cast ledge that obscures the stock bolts. I will gently remove some metal around the ledge so I can re-use the stock bolts.

Mine whistles, I never looked into fixing that though as I can not hear it in the car and my intake is LOUD anyway when the hood is up.

A single cones caused some MAF funkiness if they had an inverted cone and vacuum if they lacked it so I tried this.

Those intakes look so bad ***!! If I wasnt going boosted, I'd use my hardwood 2 1/2" cowl with R/A and set up an intake like this
