Distributor cap question
Distributor cap question
Can just a distributor cap go out? I am getting low rpm hesitation while daily driving. Mainly between 1k and 2k rpm. It also feels like it is lacking power. I double checked all the wires and they are fine. The spark plugs and coil are brand new. It is also not the distributor rotor or sensor because i replaced it when i did my heads and cam swap. I just left the older cap on it though. Would a bad distributor cap do this, and is there a way to check to see if that is the problem?
Sounds like your EGR is sticking. Do a couple of things. First disconnect the vac line to it and plug it. Take if for a ride and see what happens. While it's cool, push the diaphragm in by hand and see if it feels rough. Also check if for leaks around the gasket. You could also clean it or replace it (the valve that is).
You also want to be sure your throttle body is clean and replace the throttle position sensor if it has a lot of miles on it.

The distributor cap and rotor can wear just like the old school ones can, its basically the same design as far as delivery of spark goes.
I replaced the opti at 135k and the cap and rotor looked awful.
I think I could have just replaced the cap and rotor but its just too much work not too replace the whole opti in my opinion.
