dissect my first track timeslips please...???

Went to the track for the first time ever today. I entered into the High School bracket, which had 8 kids in it. I ran 3 time trials, then the race started, and i ran faster than i dialed in Here are the results:

R/t. .865 1.040 .714 .725
60' 2.693 2.526 2.431 2.398
1/8 10.064 9.851 9.653 9.554
MPH 75.97 76.18 76.62
1/4 15.216 14.959 14.757 14.641
MPH 95.64 96.52 96.42 96.67

I did alright considering it was the first time i had ever been to a track in my life. I really need to work on my 60' times though, which i know will help. I was running street tires, at 28 PSI. The weather was pretty good, 'bout 75-80 degrees at the highest, with a slight head wind, maybe 10-15 MPH. Another thing is that the track I was at is at approx. 3540 feet, which sux. So everything considered, how will did i do?

You definately have a LOW 14 high 13 second car, you just REALLY need to work on your launch. If you could get a 2.0 60' you would be droppin to a 14.0, maybe even a 13.9.

If I can get a 2.0 60' on my car before my cam, you can do it in yours!

dont drop the pressure on street tires...the lowest i would go is the recommended pressure, when you drop the pressure on street tires they begin to cup which in turn gives you less traction

Your sixty foots blow bad, thats why your ETs are so slow. Drag racing is all about the first sixty feet.

Like others said, your 60's are high. How are you launching the car? I assume with times like that youre dropping the clutch at 3000rpms or something...

Re: dissect my first track timeslips please...???

Actually steve0, I dropped the clutch at 2500 on my first run, which resulted in mad wheel spin through a lot of 1st, so i did it at 2000 after that. On my 2nd to last one, i didn't spin them much, just a little chirp, cuz i didn't mash the pedal to the floor like i was on the others, i just feathered it down, but too slow. I just need to practice i guess, lol.

Another quick question. If i got my 60' down to 2.1-2.0, what would my et's be??

Thanx for the replies guys

Jeff

Hmmm, thats interesting. My first time to the track I also dumped the clutch at 2000rpms but managed 2.3 60's. I suppose my track may have been a little bit better prepped. You may want to try feathering the clutch a bit coming out of the hole.

And with 2.1-2.0 60's I think at the worst youd be in the 14.0-14.2 range at close to 100mph.

Your 60ft's are unacceptable

Get those down to 2.0/1.9 and you will be looking good.

You cant just drop the clutch...you gotta feather it out...that is why everyone goes through clutches so fast

So true. I experimented with clutch technique a little bit and found the best way to launch my mostly stock 6-speed car was holding the RPMs no higher than 1600 while barely feathering it out of the hole. Any higher than that and it would spin, and lower and it would bog. Drop clutch launches just don't work unless you have super sticky tires. I would either spin or bog and decided feathering it out of the hole was the best way to go. Once the car started rolling I let the clutch out all the way and just nailed the gas and held it there until the car went through the traps .
