dissapointed with dyno

Something isn't right with my car, I have stock heads with 3angle valve job and port and polishing, 58mm port and polished intake, 58mm throttle body, 1.6rr, new lifter, hotcam. the car only dynoed 286rwhp and 300rwtq. this is through a 6 speed and it's a 95 lt1. Does ne one have ne thoughts? I know the hotcam is not all that big, but I figured it to be more than that.

Do you have headers on the car or stock manifolds? If you don't have headers, I would say thats the problem.

Ouch. I'm at 309rwhp with bolt ons and tuning. As was said above, what all is done to your exhaust? Need a good exhaust to take advantage of what the cam has to offer. Also, have you had the car tuned? If not, that's another thing you need to do if you want the cam to perform it's best

Re: dissapointed with dyno

Was this a dynojet you were running on? That will make a difference.

How did you set the rockers? Did the dyno opperator say anything looked unusual about the graph? What was the air/fuel ratio?

I didnt see headers in your list of mods... no headers will hurt the power potential. Who ported your heads?

Re: dissapointed with dyno

no headers or tune, but I still thought it would be at around 300, a local shop did the heads for me, they have done a bunch of cars around here, and they have a great reputation. I have listed all the mods except for the basic tb bypass and flowmaster muffler, but I was running a cutout at the time so the muffler is not an issue. This was on a dynojet in columbia SC, and the guy b4 me messed with the timing a bit, but I'm not sure how much if ne that will affect it. as for the RR I have no idea a local shop put the stuff in bc I lack the time or tools to do the work myself. It had crazy reading when he plugged it into the coil, but when he pulled the reading off the plug it was fine. Ne other reason it should be that low? I read on here where ppl r getting 327 of just the hotcam with no tune, but I know every car is different. Thanx for the help so far.

AS&M mids, RT cat, Borla, Moroso CAI, 1LE elbow and tuning. Still stock throttle body, rockers, and running through a cat. tuning got me 18rwhp.

327rwhp with no tuning? If that's true that would be the exception, not the rule. Not having headers is choking the ported heads up, and you dont have the right timing and A/F for the cam. You should be in the 325-350rwhp when all is said and done.

Re: dissapointed with dyno

You need headers bad. A tune will also help. Also, I bet going back to a stock throttle body will help your torque and power.

Re: dissapointed with dyno

Well with no tune your A/F is off not counting the pulse width on the injectors, and the timing. Are you running the LT4 knock sensor? You could be pulling alot of knock which will retard timing. Two with no headers you are missing probably 15-25 RWHP. A good tune ( especially a dyno with wide band O2) will gain you 20 RWHP or more. I ran the Hotcam with stock 24lb injectors and PCMFORLESS(Bryan Herter) tuning and he had to set my pulse width on the injectors to 22 which is basically maxed to get it to run with my setup. Also who ported your heads and what are the flow numbers?

Without headers or a tune, you are wasting the money you spent on head work.
