difference in f-body, corvette and impala heads

other than impala lt1's having cast iron heads
and f-bodys and vettes having aluminum heads

what other differences are there

the reason i ask is because an engine re-ring kit (that includes main bearings rod bearings, piston rings, full gaskets and seals) has different part numbers for a 95 roadmaster, or a 95 camaro or a 95 vette

i think they all have the same basic bottom end
so the only thing i can think of is maybe the valve stem seals are different or something

ok, are the head gaskets different between the camaro and the vette?
i dont think the vette having 4 bolt mains should play a role in the re-ring kit, but if i'm wrong correct me

any idea why there are three different gasket sets for these engines?

The b-body kit would have a thinner head gasket the f-body and Vette head gaskets should be the same. Do the kits contain any bolts that should not be reused from the original engine? If so there might be your answer as to how 4 bolt mains could play a part, also doesn't the Vette use a different oilpan and if so could it be a different gasket. I know there are oil cooler differences and a lack of one on some cars those gaskets would vary some.

Re: difference in f-body, corvette and impala heads

its funny that u say to charge vette owners more because here are the prices

from HI-TECH

95 roadmaster
ch350my33 $439.99

95 camaro
ch350my29 $439.99

95 corvette
ch350my28 $404.99

these kits include all gaskets all seals, piston rings, no bolts, rod and main bearings
i suppose a different oil cooler would warrant a different gasket, but thats not enough for a $35 difference

Nothing I suppose, maybe a few gaskets might not line up though.

The Corvette has different exhaust manifold gaskets. The f-body uses the outer holes to bolt the manifolds on the extreme ends of the heads, whereas the Vette uses the inner ones (like most standard headers have)

Hope this helps

that makes a hell of alot more sense as to why they are different part numbers, thank you
if anyone could offer a theory as to pricing, i'd be glad to hear it

Re: difference in f-body, corvette and impala heads

FYI, the Vette gaskets will not work with the Camaro manifolds.

If my memory is correct, a Trickflow gasket set is approx $300.

On the last Vette I built, I bought the gaskets separately.

If you are having someone do your heads, they will probably include the valve seals in the valve job.

For headers you will need different exhaust gaskets anyway.

If so, you can buy a timing cover set, rear main seal & oil pan gasket set, intake set & a set of FelPro 1074's (for more compression than stock) head gaskets for about $175.

The other misc. missing parts such as injector o-rings in a complete kit may not be required anyway.

Not sure the brand of parts you get in your kit, but many are often generic parts in the economy kits. You may be better off buying brand names separately for the same or less money.

Good rings are approx $100

Good rod/main Bearings are approx $100
