The obvious???? Stk. is magnetic, 1LE is not.......which means the 1LE shaft is aluminum and the stocker is metal. The 1LE might even be larger in diameter to the stk. shaft but I'm not sure on that one.

1LE shafts are lighter but weaker.

Steel shafts are heavier, but stronger.

The aluminum 1LE ds is (about 3-4lbs?) lighter but yes, weaker. The 1LE is stronger than the LS1 ds too. After seeing endless pics of mangled LS1 driveshafts, no aluminum ds is going on my car. The stock steel one is fine. If you need to upgrade, go with a larger diameter steel ds.

i heard the z06's use carbon fiber ones, that are lighter and stronger then the steel ones, and when they do break they almost dicinigrate so there is no damageing material flying...

has anyone else heard about these? and if so do they make ones for our cars?

You are joking right? No the Z06 does not use a CF driveshaft. Besides which, the C5 uses a completely different design than the f-body (torque tube, with driveshaft inside that), and the C4 and C5 don't put nearly the strain on driveshafts because their front and rear mount points are fixed (independent rear suspension). As to a CF driveshaft, yes there are several available for f-bodies. SLP also sells a heavy duty balanced steel driveshaft which is based off the custom shafts they used in the LT4 cars.
