Difference between dyno tune and pcmforless?

I heard of people getting their car dyno tuned and gaining like 10 HP or so, and I hear the same about pcmforless. What's the difference?

A dyno tune is precise and accurate .. every car is different . A mail order tune is ver generic

As mentioned, a dyno tune is accurate because it is specific to your car with real world data from YOUR car. A mail order tune is an educated guess based on tuning past configurations.

You can get a pretty accurate tune at best. At worst, you can damage your motor.

If you do not have access to a dyno and do not wish to use/learn Lt1_edit/Tunercat, then mail order is your only venue. A dyno is not absolutely necessary to get a decent tune.

I gained 17 RWH after my car was dyno tuned. Mail order is pretty much an educated guess at best.

These guys are dead on, dynotuning is a proven dialed-in setup, mailorder tune is based on experience with similar cars.

I suggest dynotuning if possible,

In a month or so when I get my FLP Level 4 trans I might have them dyno tune the car. I have PCMForless mail tuning now & the car is running great. I was just curious though about how much the mail order is off or how close for that matter. I'll post when I do it.

So can I do both, or is it a waste of money?

So if I had a choice between the two I should dyno tune it?

Personally, I'd hold off on tuning until you get the hotcam installed..

Sorry, but I would go for the pcm for less tune. If you already have a laptop, you'll spend less than $200 for the cable and for the programming with unlimited updates.
With a Dyno tune you only get a one time deal. Dyno tuning around my area is usually about $2xx.xx!
With the lap top, you can log your runs on the streets, and send them to bryan to tune off.
Now, I will say that our O2s sensors aren't as percise as a Wideband O2.
That's why, With serious Mods, or if you are trying to squeeze that last pony out, I would dyno the car with Wide bands, and send the charts to Bryan. Our club can usually get 3 dyno pulls with widebands for $65 with a good turn out...
That way you can still get that same perfect dyno tune, but you will still have those unlimted updates, incase you ever chance your tires size, or add a bigger cam...

Just because your are sending that info to Bryan, there is no guarantee that he will nail down the programming on the first try. When you're on the dyno, you won't leave until it's spot on perfect.

You can also get dyno tuning from Bryan. He travels quite a bit and will do dyno tuning for a group of people. I'm hoping to get my LT1 running in my El Camino in time to have him do dyno tuning when he comes to do a group of people not to far from me soon. I have one of his files right now for the initial setup of the motor. Email and and see if he's going to be near you soon.

The only way to go is the dyno tune. Of course, if the person doing the tuning knows what he is doing it will result in good numbers vs. PCMforless.
Glad to hear you are not considering Hypertech...
