Difference between 95 and 97 LT1 motor???

Difference between 95 and 97 LT1 motor???

What are the differences of these two different years of lt1....i have a 95 camaro and i just put a 97 motor in it well the only thing i thought different was the computer and the timing cover.....So i put my 95 style opti on the 97 timing cover.....and motor.....car is running like crap missing and backfireing it seems to be getting worse as it runs or is drivin.....am i tearing up my 95 style opti for some reason...it has new plugs and wires.....also,,,any help would be appreciated

Well in a nut shell, the exhaust (96+ have dual cats) The optispark is Non-vented and the timing cover is different design, as well as the fact that the 96+ have a crank sensor) and the 97s have the newer redesigned dash in them...thats all i can think of off the top of my head...

Yup, 95 and newer had vented opti's.

so is the dowel pin in the 97 motor the same as in a 95 motor.....is that the only difference in the opti is the vents...

95 was still OBD-I, 97s were OBD-II. Not an acutal engine difference, but if you are running the 97 computer as well and don't have the post-cat O2 sensor that is gunna make the car run in open loop i think (i know removing pre-cat O2s will force open loop operation, not sure about post-cat on an OBD-II seutp).

The 95/97 opti setup is the same, so is the dowel pin on the cam.

Oh Christ, I've been working on hummers for USAF for the past year and sold my Z a year ago so i got one thing wrong, u seem like the kind of **** idiot savant that happens to be an opti-know it all...kids....

Oh well thats cool, i get all riled up very easly, so i apologize on my behalf...still no matter what year is bought 95 or 97 they all hold ALOT of potential!!!

95 and up are OBD-2, but 95 F-bodies have an OBD-1 connector.

The 95 is OBD1 with a 16 pin diagnostic connector ( OBD 2 ) opposite of what jdizzell posted. Not sure on California cars.

Man i always get that backwards. For some reason i always think it's an OBD-I with OBD-II connector.
