Did SLP rip me off?
Did SLP rip me off?
Im in the middle of doing a clutch install and today I pulled out the shifter. To my suprise it looks like the factory shifter. The car is a 1997 camaro ss and I paid for the hurst shifter option according to the window sticker. Looks like all I got was the Hurst ****
I figured that the shifter would look like the Hurst/SLP shifter in their catalog but I know the pics they use cant be counted on as being accurate. If anybody has a pic of a factory T56 shifter please post a link. If anyone else has found this problem in there ss please come forward. I know mistakes can happen or people forget but if this is SLP's common practice to omit something you cant see
Thanks Kevin

Im interested in this as well, I recently bought a T-56 for an engine swap im doing out of a 95 trans am and it doesn't have the leather ball shifter, it has what looks like a hurst shifter ****, can someone post a picture of the hurst and factory shifter please? Thanks.
SLP does offer a replacement shifter similar to the factory style made by hurst, not the billet plus model though. It does not come with a **** or stick just the "base" I guess its possible that the design has been changed but I dont have anything to compare it to just catalog pics.
To those that have changed out the factory shifter base could you possibly describe what it looks like. Mine looks like its three pices bolted together with 4 bolts. The center is bare alu. while the base is bare steele, the top is a stamped steele plate and is covered with a rubber boot. The boot sits about an inch and a half above the base plate. All the aftermarket shifters I've seen appear to be one pice. Please help.
Thanks Kevin.

The SLP/GM Hurst shifters are NOT the same as the aftermarket Hurst shifters. They use a Hurst base, but use a longer shaft with a rubber isolator to meet GM's requirements for shifter lenght and noise/vibration isolation. A good upgrade is Lou's Short Stick and put it on the SLP Hurst. You'll find that it will then be just as good as the aftermarket Hurst unit.
Thanks Evan, looks like that is it exactly. After finding a pic of a stock shifter another member posted I can say for sure its not the stock shifter. The base is definitly identical to the hurst unit its just uncoated and the shaft/upperhousing are longer. I feel better now.
The short stick was already in the plan, I hear it works great.
