I think there are two K&N filters for the LT1, I use the HP-3002. I think they are both the same just the 3002 is about 1/4 longer than the 2002. I don't really know why anyone would use the 2002 if the 3002 is available though. It doesn't use much more oil (maybe 1/4 of a quart?) but I would imagine there is about 25% more surface area for better filtering. I think Patman has more exact specs on it, I know he's corrected me before on this issue

Greg is right, the 3002 is the better choice as it will flow a lot better than the 2002, and is the same price anyways so you might as well go for it.

WHAT?!?!?! If that is true why even use a filter? Why not just throw a normal cottton sock on there with a glass cover to prevent oil from going all over?

I didn't know about the 3002. I normally used the Mobile1 so the K&N was more of an emergency, besides... after driving around several stores for a filter the 2002 matched up.

1st - I'm going to find WTF happened to Mobile1 filters
2nd - If no Mobile1 Filters are available.. then the 3002 is it for now on. I wonder if the 3002 is a truck filter?

Thanks Patman and GREGG 97Z . I'll look for HP-3002 next time I change my oil.

They aren't saying filtration isn't important. Both flow and filtration are very important. I believe the point they are making is if there is a choice between an average flowing/great filtering filter and a great flowing/average filtering filter go with the better flowing one. Its most important to get the most oil possible to the engine. You sacrifice this with better filtering filters due to the smaller "holes" or whatever they are called

Please correct me if I'm wrong experts, I'm just taking a stab at it

autozone oil filter inventory

I done some research on autozone's website today and the mobil 1 filters were available by ordering and they showed the k and n filter in stock. This is according to their database, not an actual person.

So the saga continues.............................

I'm not saying to run no filter at all, what I'm saying is that as long as the filter you run will stop a good number of 20-25 micron particles or bigger, and it flows very well, that's all you need to protect your hard driven LT1. So when choosing a filter, the emphasis should be on how well it flows, since you don't want to starve your engine for oil.

The clearances in an LT1 are big enough that you don't need to be filtering out the 10 micron particles, as they aren't going to create very much wear. But if you put a restrictive oil filter on there, the engine won't be protected very well when you drive it hard and you need your oil to flow properly through it.

I ran into the same problem here in North Carolina, running a K&N filter.

the big azz 1" nut on the bottom of the filter makes it easier for installation in my application, I'm a little tighter than ya'll. plus, they advertise the burst strength, kinda fuzzy warm feeling, since I have a melling high flow oil pump and peg the oil press gauge on fire up in the mornings..

keep us updated, I'd like to run a mobil 1 filter to see the difference, although these $30 oil changes are KILLING ME!!

Verified... it SEEMS that you can order online, but whether they still stock it at the warehouse is a different story. I've called and the people at the counter cannot order it... but it is still listed on line.

I went to 3 diff. autozones around here (houston, tx) and none of them carried it anymore the last store told me that they discontinued the item! Autozone was the only place around here I could find them oreilys and wallmart don't sell um. But wallmart does sell the moble 1 oil for 25bucks. They only come in the 5qt size though. About a month ago I only needed one more quart of moble one so my aunt went to walmart and raised hell w/ them for not having single quarts in 5w-30 so I got another 5quarter for $3 and something cents. So I'm really not sure about the filter, I also now switch to the k&n! With the nice big damn bolt on the bottom!
