This is just a guess, but, check your connection and the wires going to the a/c compressor. Reason, fans usually come on when u turn on your a/c. Or, check connection at the AIR pump, that fuse also ties in with the fans.

Also check your connection to the water temp sending unit. I broke mine off once and my fans ran all the time and got a light as well.

So if I were at the track and wanted my fans to come on and stay on to cool the car, could I detach that connection

I know, I know, I need the the fan mod.

The fans come on because of the SES. Scan for the source of your problem.

I did headers and intake leak at the same time and had the EXACT same thing happen to me.

I would start the car and the check engine light would come on. Then the Fans would come on. It did that for like two or three days. I think when I put my MSD ignition in it went away and the only thing I could think of was that I reset the PCM by disconnecting the battery. But I know for a fact that I disconnected it before that to adjust my panhard bar so go figure. Give it a try and reset the PCM. You might not get lucky but I don't have the check engine light and my fans operate normal again also the MSD isn't hooked up so I know that installing it wasn't what fixed it either.

Nothing like a good scan to help make your car feel better. Unfortunately, a lot of ailments are self-induced.
