Did I screw up?
Did I screw up?
I was swapping cams today and to get the crank hub off I used a slide hammer /w crows foot end on it. It didn't work very well so I ended up going out to buy the right puller. Anyway, would using the slide hammer have damaged any bearings or anything?
Re: Did I screw up?
Take a 3/8" bolt. Cut or grind it 3 and 1/4 " from the bottom of the head. Put it in the middle of the crank hub. Put the puller on and remove the hub. It will come out pretty easy. The hub has a ridge inside itself, so if you use the crank hub bolt or a puller, it will just try to back out on itself, possibly causing damage.

I'm not sure how you had enough room to get a slide hammer in there.
Is the engine in the car? You probably did not generate enough force with the slide hammer to harm anything.
Re: Did I screw up?
Yes, the engine was out of the car. I'm not a very strong guy, but I did give it a lot of force. The hub didn't budge one bit with the slide hammer. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Chances are ya didn't hurt a thing with a small slide hammer.
One with a 10lb slide might damage the thrust main brg but I don't think ya had one that big.
