Angry Did I pay too much?

I finally got my heads back last night from the machine shop. It took over a month and I had to threaten that if they are not done in a week I was taking them elsewhere. It still took a week and a half. All I had done was mill them 10 thou. and fit new 2.0 and 1.55 valves. He quoted me a price of $350, a friend of mine who owns a shop took them for me so I could get his discount. It ended up costing me $500. Yes I was pissed. But, I've never had this work done before. Do I have every reason to be pissed or is this an acceptable price?

A regular valve job can cost $350 so $500 for this job, valves included, probably isn't out of line. Depends, of course, on where you live. Machinists have to make a living too...

Nobody is gong to drop full paying customers for a discount job. You want a discount then you have to wait till all the other jobs are done. That's business.

Valves were not included I supplied my own. The guy admitted that he dragged his feet and went on vacation.

Well, it sounds like you've already decided you were mistreated and over charged. Not much to do now other than not go back....
