Did I get sold the Wrong NGK plugs?

I have 8 NGK TR55 GP's Platinum from Summit Racing.

Does anyone have these or know of them?

I have already fouled out one and some others look like they are heading south also.

They are gapped at .050"

I have pics of the boxes if necessary.

Anyone?

Found out from NGK Customer service rep that these are the "single platinum" and that they are much lower grade for people who want platinum but dont want to pay for double platinum plugs, like the OEM ones. Do I guess having subpar platinums would be what's causing my plug problem.

So tomorrow I call the NGK Tech rep to confirm everything and go for some better plugs.

I am also driving to summit and making sure they know how I feel about telling me that these plugs are the OEM platinum replacements.

I have the ngk tr 55's gampped at 0.050 and they were a miracle sent compared to my POS bosch +4. The NGK are by far the most reccomended and I have heard nothing bu good about them till now. Yes, the NKG tr55's are the right and reccomended ones, defect maybe?

Did you measure the gap at 0.050"? I got my TR55's and out of the box they were all at 0.060", but were supposed to be 0.050".

Did you verify the gap first? Those plugs should work fine as long as the gap is right.

To answer your question, you were not sold the wrong platinum plugs. However, NGK has discontinued their original line of platinum plugs and the only platinum plugs you can get now are the "G-Power" line of plugs.

My personal feeling is that they are not as good as the original platinum plugs that they used to sell, that is why I no longer use them in my car.

What am I using now? NGK TR55IX iridium plugs. They are better than the original NGK platinum plugs I used to use and leagues ahead of the G power line.

I have had the Bosch +4s in for about 14,000 miles with no
problems at all. I will be replacing plugs when I do the cam
install though and am in a total dilema as to which plugs to
run.

There is lots and lots of contradictory information regarding
plugs out there. My setup will be basically stock and I will
not have any power adders. I have no idea what is the best
plug to run. I was beginning to think the NGK TR55s were
the ticket, but there is a lot of negative feedback on them
too.

I do have the Accel 300+ ignition, which may help out
otherwise crappy plugs, but I have no way of knowing. I
will probably go with the TR55s or Autolite 106s and just
need someone to end all this indecision with a great post
and some good convincing data.

Yes I changed the gap to .050"

Yes I learned from NGK themselves that the G series basically sucks. It is only a single platinum and are not optimal for our cars. Ultimately they are just a cheap way to say "Platinum" on the box. Double platinum is better and what is recommended for our cars.

I have a nasty miss/stumble/shift problem and I think its either plugs or broken wire at this point.

The main reason I am upset is because Summit sold me these telling me they are OEM replacements, but in reality they are not since the OEM are double platinum and NGK TR55 GP's are single and there for "may not work well" for several reasons.

I am calling NGK's Tech man today and will keep everyone updated as to what he says.

Hopefully I just need some MSD's.

If thats true about the single plat. ngk's would it also be true about the cheapest single plat. bosch's.....because i have had alot of problem with my bosch plugs(the cheapest ones, single plat.'s)inluding a INSANELY DETRIMENTAL DECREASE in gas mlg.........i was not sure if this was the source of the problem, but i've always wondered since it started happening on the first tank after i installed them.

I bought the NGK TR55GP's thinking that they were the ones that everyone here recommends. I guess this means I should go with a set of double platinums or iridium plugs instead?
