did i bend a valve???
did i bend a valve???
ok so i was asembling my engine yesterday and i didnt have a timing chain.....well i got to the point where i was adjusting the rockers on the pushrods and i needed to turn the cam so i could finish adjusting the rockers...so i used a screw driver to turn the cam via the dowel pin. well it worked for a while until i realized that the cam wasnt in sequince with the crank since theres no timing chain.... im hoping that i didnt bend a valve by forcing a valve against a piston...are valves easy to bend? i didnt have plugs in the heads at the time so it wasnt under alot of compression... do you think im alright?
I don't think you'll have a problem. When you adjust the valve you go for zero lash and then add a portion of a turn to preload the lifter. Until the plunger in the lifter bottoms you are just pushing against spring and oil pressure. and that isn't likely enough to bend a valve. I guess I'd recommend you loosen each rocker nut and start over once you have the bottom end installed.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Get the chain on then finish adjusting the valves. You most likely have the cam way out of sequence and might have to remove the rockers to get the chain on. In fact I would remove the rockers to make sure you don't bend a valve when you attempt to install the chain.

Thats like installing your oil pan before your crank, your intake manifold before your oil pump drive, etc
you probably didn't bend a valve, but seriously loosen up your rockers and get a timing chain on there, dont get ahead of yourself
lol kk will do...i had to replace the cam since we broke off the pin... it was a free replacement
