Diagnosing a bad Opti
Diagnosing a bad Opti
So I think my Opti went out, but im not sure. Im driving home one late night from work and i run through a puddle of water and my tires break loose. So i decided to have a little fun and kept spinning them (never over revved). All of a sudden *boom boom* backfiring like a mother, then it creeps to a stand still and wont start back up, it will stumble just a tad but wont start. I basically replaced everything on my car when i did a 383 swap except the opti. So now im not sure if it is my opti or what but my car wont start. Previously my car had been running top notch, except for when the fuse on my fuel pump blew and it got no gas, i thought this might be the case again, but its not - the fuse is fine and i can hear the injectors priming.
My question is: is there anyway to figure out if the opti is toast without pulling it off and checking the internals? I dont want to buy a new one, put it on and that not be the problem(cause i dont think you can return them).

Have you checked the computer for codes? It will give you a misfire code or an ignition failure code. My 95 went out about 2 months ago and it did the exact same thing as yours, minus the water. I would bet money it's the opti but you should check for codes before you start spending money.
It might give you a light for low resolution. Could be a number of things. I'de have it checked for trouble codes. You don't want to go "easter egging" your car. That gets expensive! I'de test before I started throwing parts on.
