diagnosed my clunking rattling problem!

Ive diagnosed... now i need a perscription.... but first the story. When I drive and accelerate at a certain rate...a faster rate... there is an annoying clunking rattlying sound about a little bit ahead of my seat. Today i got under the car and found the culprit. When i accelerate this way my exhaust goes up and hits the screw you can see in the pics below... in the real close up picture you can actually make out the bolt is burrowing into my exhaust. I figure in a little while there will be a hole and thats no good now is it? SO i was wondering what i should do? IS there a kind of wrap i can put around the Y-pipe there or some kind of mold to put around the bolt? something so that this thing isnt digging into my exhaust... please view my pics and any info is great thanks!!

yep thats it... and this also gives the suspicion (yea i mangled that word) that maybe a motor or trans mount is allowing this much play... so i guess i should check them out

Move the clip for the fuel and brake lines to either side of the pipe and reattach.
The frame support it is attatched too,I cut the vertical sides out about 3" (1.5" on either side of center of pipe) with a die grinder and cut off wheel and bent it up to floor and rewelded it. After grinding and painting it's hard to tell from factory.

Some poly motor mounts would help the engine from torquing over alot and hitting that bolt. Just another idea for you.

I understood the first part about moving the clip for the fuel and brake lines a little but after that i got kinda lost. DO you have any pictures or an in depth explanation?

thanks a lot for your help man

Re: diagnosed my clunking rattling problem!

Find the center of the pipe. Then remove the pipe. Measure 1.5" on either side of the pipe and mark it.
Then with a cut off wheel and die grinder cut the sides out of the support to those marks and leave the piece the fuel lines are attached too the flat bottom piece or the piece you look at that is closest to the pipe, the horizional piece. Cut or grind the sides so there are no vertical pieces left. Ya got the car floor, open space(about 3/4")and the bottom of the support. I then heated the bottom of the support and bent it up to the car floor with a small bottle jack and a 3" wide flat plate and re welded it,ground it off and painted it gray and it looks pretty good.Gave me about 3/4" more clearance.

If I can get my son to get picture I will post the,but don't count on that happening soon 'cause he's out of town for a "few" days.

couldnt i unscrew that bracket and then just move it somewhere else and screw/weld it in there.. maybe just move it aside about an inch or two? sounds like less work

Yea if it stops the rattle. I tried that too and what I wrote in an earlier post.

Re: diagnosed my clunking rattling problem!

ah i see... is it easy enough as taking a drill and making a hole a little to the left and i guess using a lock washer with the bolt for a little extra tightness? I dont know the car very well under there and i dont want to drill into anything important

ea

Yea find an out of the way place it will fit and drill a hole a little smaller than the exsisting hole(for self tapping screw) and mount it.
