It's MAF (Mass Air Flow) Don't do it. It doesn't help and can only screw things up.

There is mixed reviews on this. Your best bet is to leave it alone or you might have a big stumbleing problem because of it. Just get a granatteli (sp?) mass air flow.

Dont get a granatteli its a waste of money. Leave the Maf alone, if you want you can descreen it, that should not cause any problems at all as long as you have an air filter. But the concensus says do not port it. That screws up the readings somehow. Its an expensive measuring device, be sure not to screw it up.

Most people have problems, if you do a search on that there is many debates on doing it.

I descrened mine, and it runs fine, i forgot to mention that above.

I have had a few talks with Bryan Herter at Pcmforless and he says that the only harm in taking the screen off is debris getting in there and destroying the wires, but if you have an air filter this will not happen. He said to not port the Maf because it will make it hard to tune and throw off its readings.

Considering you don't even know what the part is called, I wouldn't touch it.

I've done it on two cars, never had a problem. Although, not much difference can be felt, if any.

I heard it was ok to do as long as you still had the air filter in

Guys, it isn't there to protect the wires. It is there to produce laminar air flow over the wires (get the air directed straight and help eliminate turbulance). That is why it *can* be bad for the maf calibration if it is removed. /Small flame incoming... If you don't know what it does then it is probably best not to mess with it. /Flame off.

I'm obviously not a proponent of removing it. I had mine out for a while but thankfully saved it and reinstalled. FWIW, I felt no difference with it out and saw many potentials for problems, thus why it went back in.

If you do it, fine, but be careful and save the screen so you can put it back in.

It's not bad to mess around with stuff, but at least try to know what it is you are messing with.

My $.02 anyway.
