Denatured alcohol, smog/aircare test

Hey guys, having some smog / aircare test hassles even with fairly recent tune-up a new Magnaflow cat. Seen a few old posts about running a bit of denatured alcohol just before the test.

Does this help bring down hydrocarbons and any adverse effects on the car afterwards?

Thanks in advance !

After a good thrash, with mohawk ethanol based gas, drive test only;

Hydrocarbons HC limit, .50, 1.20 score, fail
Carbon Monoxide, 9.32 limit, 3.66 score, pass
Oxides of nitrogen, 1.24 limit, 1.12 score, pass

I would sooner get a gallon of E85 if you can, denatured is basically ethanol but I do not believe it is as "dry".

Well adding ethanol did nothing, but a fixing vaccuum leak sure helped, Hydro carbons pass, CO pass.... Nox fail, but it looks like a faulty EGR ..close....
