Question Deleting 02 sensor questions inside...temporarirly unplugging them first, ok???

So, I have a 1994 B4C...with a 396ci LT1 (still all '94 equipment) blown via a tiny Vortech A-Trim maxed out.

Car is running on a mail-order tune. Will be getting a dyno-tune come spring time (finally).

Car runs great at the moment, worked out pretty much all the kinks "i think". Anyhow, it's my daily driver and I live in an area that sees lots of snow this time of year. I drive through unplowed roads all the time, including lots of slush. Due to my car being lowered with longtubes, I have managed to kill (2) 02 sensors via water damage in the past 2 months.

I'm tired of replacing these things. And I don't want to build a shield for them. I figure now is a good time to delete them and build a wideband setup.

QUESTION: What exactly happens when I simply unplug both sensors for now prior to them being tuned out? One of the sensors died today, car is undrivable with it sending signal to ecu due to it constantly sending a 999mv signal . I unplugged both sensors for now, and it tripped the "open 02 sensor circuit" trouble code for both cyl banks. Car however runs and drives great with them unplugged.

I would prefer to just leave them unplugged for the next few months while I peice together a wideband setup, and get the car ready for the dyno-tune. I'm simply unsure what the ecu does with both sensors in a open circuit. Does it just run in open loop? or does it just keep the last block learned values and use those?

Thanks in advance,
-Andrew

It's fine to have them unplugged. All you'll see is an SES.

With the o2 sensors unpluged it will stay in open loop and probly never go into closed loop. So your long term fuel trims will stay at wherever they were last when your o2 sensors were working. I think you should be OK with them unpluged for a while. But my guess would be if there was a major weather change that your car might run terrible. Not exactly sure on that though. I personaly would not want to go without them.

Weld in a bung on the top closer to the collector. Staying in open loop is not a good idea for a daily driver.
